Усложняем задание и тренируемся определять прошедшие времена, раскрывая скобки в английских сложных предложениях. Для правильного определения прошедшего времени, надо понимать смысл высказывания, то есть, перевести предложение. Правильный перевод всегда точно укажет на нужное время.

В следующих сложных предложениях раскройте скобки и поставьте глаголы в нужное прошедшее время Past Perfect Tense или Past Indefinite Tense.

1. We (to hear) that a fire ( to break out) in the neighbouring house.

2. Mary ( to be) on her way to meet her mother whom she ( not to see) for many years.

3. He ( to discover) to his horror that he ( to eat) half a maggot with his last piece of apple.

4. She (to tell) me about everything after her brother (to leave).

5. A friend of mine ( to write) a detective story called Murder in the brewery, although he never (to visit) a brewery in his life.

6. On leaving the hospital John ( to thank) the doctor who (to cure) him of his disease.
